Estos se acumulan en el medio ambiente, por lo que afecta a la biodiversidad en suelos, lagos, r\u00edos y mares.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Por ello, un equipo de la Universidad T\u00e9cnica de M\u00fanich (TUM, por sus siglas en alem\u00e1n) ha desarrollado una alternativa a los insecticidas tradicionales: un agente biodegradable que mantiene a raya a las plagas sin envenenarlas, que se roc\u00eda sobre las plantas y funciona de manera muy parecida al repelente de mosquitos usado por los ba\u00f1istas en el verano, extendiendo un olor que mantiene alejados a los insectos no deseados.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00abNo se trata solo de las abejas, se trata de la supervivencia de la humanidad\u00bb, dice el profesor Thomas Br\u00fcck, que dirige la C\u00e1tedra Werner Siemens de Biotecnolog\u00eda Sint\u00e9tica en TUM. \u00abSin las abejas que polinizan una amplia variedad de plantas, no solo las estanter\u00edas de nuestros supermercados estar\u00edan casi desnudas, sino que en poco tiempo ya no ser\u00eda posible abastecer de alimentos a la poblaci\u00f3n mundial\u00bb.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">El equipo de investigaci\u00f3n de la TUM se inspir\u00f3 en la planta de tabaco, que produce cembratrienol (CBTol) en sus hojas, una mol\u00e9cula que utiliza para protegerse de las plagas. As\u00ed, aisl\u00f3 con herramientas sint\u00e9ticas de biotecnolog\u00eda las secciones del genoma de esta planta que forman las mol\u00e9culas de CBTol y reconstruyeron el genoma de la bacteria E.coli. Las bacterias gen\u00e9ticamente modificadas, alimentadas con salvado de trigo, ahora producen el agente activo deseado.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Los estudios de esta investigaci\u00f3n se\u00f1alan que este spray de CBTol no es t\u00f3xico para los insectos y, a\u00fan as\u00ed, protege contra los \u00e1fidos. Adem\u00e1s, como es biodegradable, no se acumula.
